OPTICAL SPACES: The Art of Victor Vasarely
January 2013 | OPTICAL SPACES: The Art of Victor Vasarely opens January 11 at the Museum of Geometric and MADI Art with a reception from 5:30-7:30PM. Curated by artist Orna Feinstein, the exhibition features the work of Victor Vasarely. Vasarely is the acknowledged leader of the Op-Art movement, and his innovations in color and optical illusion have had a strong influence on many modern artists. Orna will speak on Vasarely and the exhibit on March 7 at 5:30pm and the show will run through April 7, 2013.

Victor Vasarely (1908-97) was a Hungarian born French artist recognized as the founder of the Op-Art movement. His innovations in the field of plastic art and optical illusions influenced and inspired many modern and contemporary artists. He is one of the most distinctive print makers of the mid 20th Century - copied by many, equalled by none. OPTICAL SPACES: The Art of Victor Vasarely includes more than 2 dozen of his works with paintings, prints, and sculptures. This exhibit, in collaboration with the Museum of Printing History, will travel to Houston opening April 25 and running thru August 3, 2013.

The art in this exhibition comes from private collections, his estate, galleries, and the Museum of Printing History. The black and white gouaches were painted in the early 1950’s and other works are from the Expansive-Regressive Universal Structures period of the 1970’s. This exhibit will travel from the museum to the Museum of Printing History in Houston to be exhibited in the summer of 2013.
