With spring in the air, the wine panel contemplated the rush of celebrations to come: bridal showers, weddings, birthdays, baptisms and big anniversaries. Such occasions call for impressive cakes, and there's no shortage of local bakeries that supply them. Even at the most carefully orchestrated events, however, there's often a glaring oversight: the wine for toasting and sipping with cake. Usually it's a sparkler that's fine on its own, yet it clashes with the cake.
